Habrotrocha maculata Murray, 1911
Habrotrocha maculata, whirling (feeding) specimen, dorsoventral view. This species is characterized by a conspicuous granulated integument of the trunk.

Habrotrocha maculata, specimen compressed by coverslide, dorsoventral view. This species is characterized by a conspicuous granulated integument of the trunk. The granules are randomly scattered, which is in contrast to Habrotrocha aspera (which was found in the same location), where the granules/ dots are in the longitudinal folds of the trunk integument. The image shows that in the area of the transverse muscles the dots are lacking.

Habrotrocha maculata, detail of the dots, which are composed of more or less 5 components. In contrast to other protruberances of the integument of bdelloids these granules are dissolved by SDS.

Habrotrocha maculata, spurs (dorsoventral view) with bulbous base (Type 5), no interspace.

Habrotrocha maculata, two images of the ramate trophi. Left: cephalic view; dental formula 1+2/1+2+1; ramus length (RaL): 14µm ( macerated specimen). Right: dorsal view of another specimen, compressed by coverslide, showing the short buccal tube (≈ 1/2 RaL)
